Head lice.  For many parents it feels like a constant battle, and there's no question who's winning.

Head lice have had a long time to perfect their survival strategy, after all.   The earliest recordings of lice are from Ancient Eygpt, where they were found on mummies, and head lice combs buried in tombs.

Head lice can survive under water for several hours.  They attach themselves to your scalp with glue. They can even change their colour as camoflague depending on the colour hair they're in.  These critters are next-level battle strategists.  But you can be smarter.

Elfs on shelfs, carols Christmas Eve, family photos with Santa, visiting local Christmas light displays... it seems like every family has a special "tradition" at Christmas.

But what if you don't, really?  It's easy to feel like you're shortchanging your kids special memories, particularly seeing it all splashed across social media this time of year.

Traditions and rituals are lovely, but they're not everything.  So don't feel bad if you don't stand in shopping centre queues to sit your kids on sweaty Santa's knees, or write individual cards to every teacher.   Often they're more about the grownups than the kids, if we're being totally honest.   But if you do still want to do something - maybe a bit more low-maintenance! - here's a few fun ideas.

In a time when entertaining the kids is as simple as letting them play with Snapchat filters and Minion Rush, it's easy to forget the real joy old fashioned games & activities can bring.

Try a few of these ideas this school holidays - you'll enjoy the nostalgia, and they'll enjoy spending time with you.   Can you do one each day?

1. Baking

All ages can enjoy this activity, and it can be as simple as buying a cake mix from the supermarket.  If you want to get a little more creative, we've got a great recipe for Koala cupcakes here!

The value of sleep for children can't be underestimated.  We know that children with healthy sleep patterns have better attention spans, more typical neurological development and higher IQ's.  They're more fun to be around, more sociable and less demanding.

Basically, good sleep is the holy grail of family harmony.  But it can seem oh, so hard to achieve when children seem to want the exact opposite of a full night's shut eye.  Here are some great tips to help you on the right track.

Kids can get messy and where there's messy kids, there's often messy toys!   Cleaning items that come from a toy library, op shop or donated by friends and relatives is often a good idea, too (as is sanitising after play dates, or illness).

Here's our best tips to handle some of the most common grubby toy dilemmas.

Kids have a powerful influence on the recycling habits of a household.  Educating them early is likely to have a lasting impact (and keep the adults on their toes!).

1. Have a chat

First of all it's important to discuss with kids why we should recycle.  And why is that, exactly?

Recycling is very important as waste has a huge negative impact on the natural environment.

Just like kids all have different personalities, preferences and dislikes, they can have different learning styles as well.  According to Scholastic, these fall into three different categories:  listening, looking, or doing.  (aural, visual or kinesthetic)

Once you pinpoint your child's learning style it will help reveal how their brain works best.  Then you, and their teachers, can play to their strengths.

Take this quick quiz and note down your answers to each question to find out.

1. You let your child pick a toy in the $2 shop.  Which is he/she most likely to choose?

a) Paint-by-numbers set

b) Play microphone

Ideally a child’s bedroom is a healthy environment to sleep and play.  But a lot goes on in there, and so it can end up harbouring some nasty germs.

Fortunately we’ve got some natural tips on how to combat this with Euky Bear, best of all they take less than 30 seconds!

Surprised?  Yes the main use of Euky Bear Sniffly Nose Room Spray is to help relieve congested noses so children can sleep. But with essential oils like eucalyptus, rosemary and oil of wintergreen, it’s also a powerful natural germ-killer.
